Last Thursday would have been day 3, but I was competing at the Utah Northern Region DECA competition in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing team role play. My partner and I ended up taking first overall for our event.
Today was different than day 1 and day 2. I woke up at 5:00 to do some writing and worked until about 7:15. At 8:00 I talked to Jake from Layout Ultimate Gloves and learned a lot from our conversation. He told me the story of how he started his company, talked about marketing practices, and discussed the niche market of Ultimate Frisbee.
Then, I resumed work on learning Java. I was working on a project within the course to create an app that would tell the user if a number is a square number, triangular number, both, or neither. I struggled to create the app last week, so I followed the step-by-step process taught by the instructor. I struggled to follow the directions and wasn’t sure if I understood what the code I was regurgitating actually meant. But I plowed through the lesson and created the app.
Then, I took a Java learning assessment from the Cambridge Certification Authority. And failed.
So, I have a lot to learn.
The coolest thing I did today was listen to this episode of the Tim Ferris Show.
Rather than summarize it or say what I learned, I would urge you to listen to it yourself. Stick through until the end and take the challenge that Debbie Millman gives, it could predict your future.
Oh, and I designed a flyer for my friend’s Eagle Scout project.
