This composition connects the viewer with the world of the chess board, allowing them to experience the tension and that comes as an opponent methodically plans their next move.
The monochromatic, grainy texture produces a refined mood, reminding the viewer that chess is not just about what you do, but how you do it--the way you beat your opponent is just as important as simply beating them. Class is important when playing chess.
I modeled the pieces, the board, and the table in Cinema 4D, added trees from the Cinema 4D content browser, and lit the scene with an HDRI and an area light. The composition was rendered in Redshift.
